Asmodeus Burnham was a devout Christian closely associated with Joseph Cullen Root's fraternal society Modern Woodman of America. When Root was later involved in a financial scandal Burnham became disillusioned and founded The Green Jesus Society.
Burnham left a lasting legacy of inspirational insights that has guided the organization for 100 years. Including his book, The World He Gave to Us and numerous personal writings and lectures.
In 1983 Asmodeus Burnham III became the acting President of the GJS and renamed the organization The Green Jesus Action Network. In a rare interview published in the May 1990 issue of EcoTraveller Magazine he said, "The mission of my family, GJAN and thousands of Christians is to protect the Earth. God said on the third day of Creation when He looked at the earth and all it's abundance, "and God saw that it was good"....We at GJAN want to keep it that way!"
